Status bar is visible even when turned off in windows settings

Hi,

I have a web based application in which i don't want to show the status
bar. I have achieved this by specifying statusbar=no in window settings
while opening a new window in JavaScript.
On windows 2003 server (IE version: 6.0.3790.1830), the status bar is
not hidden with this setting.

Does anybody know the reason behind it and solution for the same?

Sorry, but the latest versions of IE stop the ability to remove the status
bar. Its on, no matter what. Blame it on the malware purveyors and browser
hijackers.
