Startup cleanup - help needed

C

Chris Mitchell

I am trying to cleanup my startup via Start > Run > msconfig and have
removed a number of items from my startup list.

However I have two items that I cannot tell what they are, i.e. there are
two checked boxes, but both the 'Startup Item' and 'Command' column entries
for these two are blank and the 'Location' column entry is the same as
everything else, e.g. 'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run'.

How can I tell what these are and whether or not I can safely disable them?

Also can anyone recommend any good, free utilities/sites to help with
cleaning up my startup?

TIA.

Chris.

Clean-up????

Use Autoruns to find any unwanted start ups!
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting,
or you can can right click an item and then delete it. If you uncheck
you can recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer approach than
editing the Registry. Another useful feature of the programme is that
you can right click an item and select Search Online to get information
about the item selected.

Hope this helps.
