Start-up registry problem

Running Win XP on Toshiba laptop, at start-up I get a error pop-up saying
that "c:\windows\system32\dx8compat.exe" cannot be found in registry, check
registry and delete if not there. (???)
First, it is more of a delaying start-up annoyance than anything, I've
gotten use to clearing it, But it might be time to fix it.
Anyone???

nass...
Tried all, to no avail.
Deleted line out of registry, and still get same message.
BUT, I think some of what I did helped out the computer ( I think it's
running a wee bit faster)
Any other thoughts, or should I post in other group?

Hi,

"AutoRuns for Windows v8.61 By Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell"
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx
The tool above will show in real time the running processes and can show
what in the registry, DLLs on your machine and you can use it to
remove/Delete a file or edit the startup programs.
Use the above tool to locate these Processes and delete them.
[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run =

[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows =

[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Uninstall=
"C:\Windows\System32\Dx8compat.exe"

[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run =

[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

Searh for these Running processes and delete them from your system.
