Start up folder problems

I have two SHORTCUTS (size = 520 bytes / each, approximately) in my Windows
XP Home Start Up Folder (Path = C:\Documents and Settings \ Paul Rumbaugh \
Start Menu \Programs \ Startup), one to Notepad.exe and the other to AOL.exe.
Notepad.exe always starts upon boot up but AOL.exe never starts. If I
delete the shortcut to Notepad.exe, the shortcut to AOL.exe still does not
work. Why won’t AOL.exe load upon boot up? Double clicking on the shortcut
to AOL.exe in the Startup folder causes AOL.exe to load and become active.
The shortcut to AOL.exe is the one that I really want to work.

click start/run type msconfig click the startup tab, here you can
remove notepad from starting up, or better yet, modify it to point to
aol.exe i forget whether you an modify the entries or not, im on linux
at the moment.
