Start Menu empty when returning from extended monitor

I sometimes extend my desktop to my TV (2nd monitor) through the S-video
connection. It works fine.

But when I come out of the extended desktop (unclicking the "Extend the
desktop onto this monitor"), my Windows menu bar at the bottom is empty. And
aside from the Windows button at the left, I see nothing. The applications
are still there, but invisible. I can mouse over and still get the little
previews, and click on the invisible buttons.

Here's a screen shot

Has anyone experienced this or can reproduce this? It happens everytime, so
it's easy for me to reproduce.

I'm using an ASUS F3Jp notebook, running Vista Home Premium.

Thanks.

Gave that a try, but even in Classic mode, it stays transparent.
I should mention that I can get into the Start menu by clicking the Windows
Icon, and that appears fine. It's just the bar at the bottom that doesn't
show anything (even if it's there in spirit).

Right now, the only way I know how to get it back is by:
1) Extend my desktop again
2) Logout and log back in
3) Hibernate or Sleep and come back

Any other solutions to try?
