Haven't upgraded since `98...new laptop now, many questions...

To Whom:

All help on any of these (mostly probably pretty simple & basic) questions
is greatly appreciated:

1. I can't seem to modify my Start menu. I had contacted customer support to
find out how to get rid of the annoying pop up dialogue bubble that sprang up
whenever the pointer lingered for a second over any program or start menu
icon etc., and it had the effect of blocking the sub-menus so one couldn't
see what they needed next! Unfortunately, having corrected that problem the
right click was rendered ineffectual (Viagra-less) in the start menu or the
all program menu, control panel etc. It seems to only work when I get to
folder level. Any idea how to modify the start menu a different way? Or,
even better, how to get the mini pop-up dialogue boxes to appear only when I
right click and not when I hover? That would be the best, and is how I had
my older PC set up.

2. Why can't I get consistent scroll using my touch pad? Sometimes scrolls,
sometimes not...sometimes a click gets it to scroll, sometimes
not...sometimes it is on autro-scroll, the page continues to scroll with no
action on my part, other times not...and sometimes this happens within the
same window at different times.

3. Why does an IM window warning "..Session has been terminated..." appear
every time that I log on to netscape to get to my MS Exchange mail, and with
every window or tab I open (of course this does not happern when I am using
IE from the start), and how the heck do I get that to stop?!? I've tried to
delete every IM file I could find, even hidden ones, but still they appear!

4. How do I find the fax number for my notebook, and will it even accept
incomming FAX's as it is on a DSL line?

5. How do I get IE to remember my user & password when I try to access mail
though IE?

6. How do I set up the Radio and Television so that I can easily listen
to/watch either whenever? And does the TV function allow me to receive
premium and/or pay per view channels?

7. Following up on #7...what is the best site to get music from and which is
best for movies, if you know what I mean...? Also, my notebook came with
iTunes, MS Media, RIO software, and a few other play-copy-burn programs for
audio and video applications, which is best? What are the pros/cons of each?
(iTunes seems to have grabbed the default spot, how do I change that?)

8. How do I transfer files and programs from my older desktop to my new PC
using the patch cords that I have going between the rj45 ports? Will
programs transferred over in such a way work on the new machine? How best to
add a 2nd and 3rd monitor so that they can all work as one giant monitor
(which wopuld be pretty cool!)?

9. Does the SP2 only work with IE? Or are other internet bvrowsers also
covered?

10. And Finally...is the introductopry "Tour" worthwhile? Or is time better
spent doing?

I and my students thank all of you who have any insight into these questions.

Cordially,

BPL

......Snipped for brevity....

Take a bit of time and go into Control Panel. Choose each item and
configure your computer to your liking. You can choose the ? mark
in the upper right corner for a brief explanation of each item to
help with your choices.
