SpywareBlaster is updating

I've used SpywareGuard 2.2 along with SpywareBlaster (both Javacool) for a
long time now, it compliments SpywareBlaster very well with a real time
protection for spyware. I can't tell you how many times SpywareGuard stopped
an attack dead in it's tracks. Have a look.

Here is something from Spyware Warrior
Install anti-malware protection

Basic Free Protection

Scanning for spyware and adware isn't enough to protect your PC. You also
need to take preventative steps to ensure that unwanted software doesn't come
back. One effective way to prevent spyware and adware from returning is to
install an anti-spyware prevention program such as:

SpywareBlaster
SpywareGuard

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are excellent, free programs from JavaCool.
I recommend installing and using both, as they protect your computer in
different ways. SpywareBlaster "inoculates" your Internet Explorer browser
against the installation of unwanted spyware and adware from the internet.
SpywareGuard actively monitors your PC and prevents spyware infestations.
Both are easy to install and update.

Thank you Ron. I checked last night, guess I missed it. Also going to look
into that other Spyware Guard, seems we never can be careful enough.....:)

Thanks for that pointer Ron.

I always run manual contextual AS scans of any downloads prior to
installation, and since Defender doesn't have this feature it's usually
with SpySweeper or ASquared followed up with an AV contextual scan. The
problem with that which I saw in WLOC was that certain packagers... for
instance the one that JavaCool himself uses and that's rather uncommon were
not able to be unpacked and thus couldn't be scanned (not sure if this is
still a problem with OneCare). So the question is how does SpywareGuard
get around this problem? If Microsoft can't afford to include the packager
that JavaCool uses within WLOC then how would a small company like this be
able to include the code to unpack all the esoteric installation packaging
options available? That question has been bothering me, but I'll give your
recommendation a try.

Dave M, JJ, It's been a long time since i've installed it so I don't have it
on my desktop, what i have is a little red S an G in my system tray that you
right click on to open the program. The program allerts you by opening a
window saying an attempt has been made to change you IE settings ( home page)
: Old Value is :#### and New Value is : #### Would you like to keep Old
Value or keep New Value , very simple. And if i remember right it blocked a
download from a site that was trying to install something without me knowing
about it. This program has saved me many times from my homepage being
changed.
BTW, In the Blaster and Guard forum at Wilders Donna B and a few other
MS - MVP'S all like this little program. You can find that link at the
bottom of the SpywareGuard page. Keep us posted Ron

Many thanks for the advice Ron. However. Following an update my def file
shows a date of 1/22/04 !! Not sure how to interpret this - does this check
out with you? RTP disabled in WD.

Same date shown here, Stu. All else appears to be correct and the update
went well with the full install downloaded. Not sure why you included it,
but my RTP is enabled in WD, and the download was fully scanned by AV & AS
before install from disk, though as I mentioned previously, Javacool uses a
uncommon packager that may not be able to be scanned by all security
products... and those products may not want to advertise that fact to you.
It was at least somewhat hidden by OneCare and involved the opening of
several levels of detail before the scanning errors showed up. Good thing
Javacool is trustworthy.

Many thanks for the feedback Dave. Not sure why I included the WD comment
either other than to suggest it would be prudent not to have two RTP agents
running together post installation but foolishly disabled WD before
downloading !

Hi Ron. As I mentioned to Dave I disabled RTP in Defender before downloading
Spyware Guard - can`t think why I did that. However, I have just experimented
by downloading and reinstalling again this time with WD RTP enabled. I get
just two Known Application flags from WD during installation.

1. Sgmain.exe - the application executable
2. dlprotect.dll - the browser add on.
