Spyware PopUp Warning

When I opened my browser today, I received a PopUp message
saying that "We have detected that you have tracking
software installed in you machine." Following is a link
to download a free scanner to eliminate it. There is no
mention of who the "WE" is or how they detected this
software but I clicked on a link for more info that led me
to find it came from enigmasoftwaregroup.com. Is this
legitimate and something I should consider doing or is it
a hacker's scam or some sort. Is there anything I can
search for on my computer to find out if I do have spyware
on my machine so I can delete it? Thanks in advance.
