Spyware not identified by MSAS???

My computer is scanned daily by Microsoft AntiSpyware. Today I tried a free
scan by XoftSpy which identified a batch of files – Viewpoint Tool Spyware -
which was categorised as being a threat to my computer. I found a list of
these under -

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint …

I wondered why Microsoft AntiSpyware has not identified this “threat†and
whether I should remove these files myself. There are a number of them.

Help/advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks for your advice. Unfortunately - not being very technical - I am
having problems carrying out your instructions - ie finding the exe file.
Will ask a friend to assist me.

Hello Alvis, You might also try getting rid of cookies which MSAS doesn't
do anything about. I don't say this will get rid of all the findings that
Xoft shows, Probably false positive to attempt to get you to buy product.

: Hello Alvis,
:
: XoftSpy Hhhuummm?
:
: This could well be a false positive.
:
: One way to get further information is to find the exe file on your system,
: and submit the file at one or more of the following sites:
:
:
:
: Each has a browse window in the upper right to do the submission, and will
: check out your file with 10 or so antivirus vendors with one submission.
:
: A clean reading at these sites is not proof that a file is safe, but I'd
say
: in this case that it is likely to be a good indicator that, in fact, the
: file is safe, and you are seeing a false positive.

Hello Ira

I had cleared all the cookies and temporary files before carrying out the
Xoft scan. Have now run a "Windows Live Safety Center scan" - which I read
about in another thread - and my computer received a clear bill of health. I
think both you and Engel are right - it was probably a false negative.

Many thanks

Alvis
