ive just onstalled beta 2 version and updated it. left i running for
1.40hours (long time) and it found nothing. i then ran the free version of
adaware which found 12 high risk threats and spybot which found 9 high risk
threats. includnt browser hijacks etc.
does defender not have these capabilities yet? or am i missing something?

My understanding is it depends on your definition of "Spyware" and "Adware"

AdAware / Spybot will remove anything they consider collects data on your
browsing habits, like those cookies that are used to drive banner ads. I
GUESS MS dont consider these to be malevalent, and so are not looked for.
Remember the fuss caused when MS decided Sonys CD software was Spyware?

For this reason, I THINK I read somewhere that Defender doesn't currently
scan cookies.

Yes your right about the cookies. and i know they dont get scanned. it was
more about things like the browser hijack sofdtware which was the(malware) i
think its called that anyway. also spybot said something about a dialer? not
that it can dial as i have adsl and no modem inside anyway. so im not sure
still if MS include those at all?
