I get a message saying valid digital signature that
verifies the publisher". I used the alternate validation
method and after I run it, the same screen message comes
up - what is the problem

You are getting a corrupted file, somehow. Does your ISP run a cache?

Repeating the download, over time, until you get a good one--or downloading
by another path (friends house, different ISP, etc)--might work.
