Spybot S&D Breaks AOL Instant Messenger

Help! I have a client machine upon which Spybot S&D removed tons of bad
stuff. In the process, AOL Instant Messenger broke. It can sign on and see
messages, however, the user cannot type anything in the text box to IM back.
Uninstalling and Reinstalling does not work. I've only seen one web post
about a user experiencing this, but it was cut short before the answer
surfaced. Has anyone seen this? Please help if you have. Thanks!

If you have XP, have you tried a "System Restore" to "Attempt" to go back
before Spybot "Did it's thing"? Don't know if it will work, but it's
certainly worth a try.

There's a feature in spybot called recovery. When you click this
button it takes you to a window where you can see the changes and undo
them.
After undoing them, perform a spyware scan using ad-aware.

Good luck

No, it is a good suggestion. If the recovery option in spybot fails,
the OP can use system restore.

You might try removing the immunize blocking in SBS&D. Then see if AOL IM
works. If so, then reapply the immunize blocking again and see if AOL IM
still works. I had a problem connecting with AOL IM when I first setup
SpywareBlaster 1.3. I disabled all the protection, connected to AOL IM and
then enabled the protection again. Now AOL IM works fine and SpywareBlaster
protection is fully enabled. I thing the two features are similar.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried System Restore to 2 points in time
and it couldn't get back to either one. Another problem I guess.

Anyhow, uninstalled and reinstalled AIM. No luck.
Restored WildTangent (part of AIM) using Spybot S&D interface. No luck.
The problem isn't AIM connecting, it connects fine and I can see people
signing on and off. The only problem is you can't type in a chat window.
Odd. Like part of the program got corrupted (dll or something). I really
believe a reinstall would've fixded it.

Decided to install Trillian instead. That works fine. Overall, very upset
that this broke AIM.
