My wife is encountering a sporadic issue with Outlook 2003 where while sending/recieving outlook spews the following:

Task 'pop3.XXX.com - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

(actual domain name masked)

The outlook version seems to be a fully patched office 2003 sp2 as officeupdate doesn't find any updates.

While it isn't completely repeatable and somewhat sporadic it seems to occur when the laptop is left alone for a while with outlook running. The laptop is running XP media center and utilizes a wireless connection. I have altered most of the power saving configs to try to keep the wifi card running, but the wifi card just might be going into power saving mode.

Upon return to use the laptop, we can access the internet just fine, and ping the pop3 server, but every now and then (once a day or two) it seems outlook will lose it and pop up the aforementioned message. The issue only seems to goes away if outlook is restarted or windows is restarted.

any help is appreciated!

thanks-
