WindowsXP SP3 2 user accounts. One Administrator and one limited. For some
reason the spoolsv.exe in my limited user acct. is always using some cpu
usage, currently averaging 10% while in my administrator acct. it never uses
any. Why is this?

This issue may occur if you are using printer drivers that are not completely compatible with Windows XP.
To resolve this issue, obtain and install the latest printer drivers for your printer.

My printer is an HP Deskjet 820cxi that is about 12 years old. The Hp
website says to use the drivers that come with XP as they are the latest.
But why would that affect one of my accounts and not the other? I always run
both accounts concurrently and use fast-user switching. Basically I use the
limited account when online.

I did what you asked and Winprint is the only entry in the left pane and
print type it set to Raw. It's not that big of a deal but I am right in
thinking that the spoolsv.exe shouldn't be using processor cycles on one of
my accounts when nothing is printing?

The print spooler service is currently set to Automatic. Could I set it to
manual and not mess anything up?

Nevermind I have already tried and manual doesn't work.

Ok. Try this, go grab Process Explorer (free), fire it up, and see if
anything is attached to spoolsv.exe that might be causing it to
consume CPU cycles. Let me know what you see.

Thanks I have already looked there and no files are present. Maybe
nothing is wrong and this is normal when running 2 accounts.
I mean it is only using between 5-10 %.

No, I have several accounts and the spooler.exe process is always at 0% with
or w/o the printer connected.. Now that I recolect I did have that problem a
few weeks back, and I just disabled the spooler service for a while and
scanned for spyware and deleted junk and temp files... days later a
reenabled the service and it has stayed at 0%... so there's a chance it
could be spyware related.

You could install an autoruns application to see the running processes in
detail and maybe disable a few of them if they seem a bit suspicious.

I went ahead and booted my computer this morning using just my Limited user
account and Spoolsv.exe is at 0% cpu usage. So I am
concluding the behaviour on my computer is normal with both accounts active.
Thanks for your help>
