spoolsv.exe increase virtual memory usage

Marco

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro notebook with windows xp sp2 installed
and MS office 2003.
Actually my notebook is very slow and quite frequently I get a message
that warn me about a problem with the dimension of virtual memory (The
residual virtual memory is not enough, so the OS suggests me to close
some application).
Looking in the processes list of the Task Manager I see that
spoolsv.exe is the process that use the largest amount of virtual
memory.
It sounds strange because I didn't print anything from the moment I
switched on the notebook.
I searched for viruses and spyware (withn Norton, NOD32, AVG, Ewido, AD
Aware, Spybot Search & destroy), but nothing has been found.
I obsereved that since I didn't use any Office application, spoolsv.exe
uses a small amount of virtual memory (some MB), as soon as I open an
Office application the virtual memory usage of spoolsv.exe increases
(some hundreds of MB) and remain at that levels even if I close the
Office application.

Anyone has (or had) the same problem and knows a solution?

Regards
Marco

Spoolsv.exe is the printer spooler utility for Windows XP.

How many printers do you have setup on the laptop, and what are they?

Try uninstalling all of them (assuming you can easily reinstall at
least the ones that are really needed) and see if the problem
persists.

Good luck

Hi,
thanks for your prompt answer. I had two network printers (Epson EPL
6200 and Aculaser C900) and one Pdf Creator (PDF995). Now the netpwrl
printers ahve been unistalled and spoolsv.exe uses less virtual memory
(some MB). As soon as I will reconnect to my LAN I'll try to re-install
the network printers, hoping it doesn't cause problems.

Thank again
Marco
