SPOOLER CANNOT REMAIN STARTED - FIX

G

Many of us (…if not all) are coming up empty handed. DELL just replaced 9
computers (OPTIPLEX) because of this very issue.

- Printer Spooler and corresponding RPC services fail to load on startup.
- Printers and faxes are *all* unavailable.
- An abundance of errors regarding print spooler not started, etc.

Does anyone know for certain, and has anyone contacted MS on this issue?
Gosh…, we must have all accumulated 1000’s of wasted hours on images having
this very problem. Cheers -Michael

....and BTW. It's almost insulting to read that someone is detailing exactly
how to navigate to services (services.msc) in order to START the spooler
service and solve this issue. In our many years of experience we have never
seen the printer spooler fail to load until recently, yet this the first
place we went and failed. If a resolution is available it is way beyond
rudimentary steps in order to FIX.

....these problems are the result of NEW machines with NO printers installed
with a NEWLY installed OS (Windows XP). Thanks for your reply but this could
not be any problem "caused by faulty print drivers".

most spooler failures are caused by faulting print drivers. Start there.

you can also search the Knowledge base if there is an error message

Perhaps if the spooler is looking for a printer driver to hook to, and none
is present.
Maybe a nonexistant printer driver might be considered a faulty one from a
software detection standpoint. I can remember when we had to install the
generic printer driver or a generic postscript printer driver to make office
work properly without a "normal" printer & driver instralled.

HERE IS THE ANSWER EVERYONE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR....

After 1hr. and 15min. this morning on hold with Microsoft XP SP2 (FREE)
support, their level 1 got us no where in 45min. (...we are not surprised!).
The callback from level 2 was never received. Likely it will come after the
release of SP3!..., and by that time Linux will hopefully mean a great deal
more to all of us.

OK, I'm personally miffed and I had to drive it out of my system. You would
be too if after 20+ hours you were stuck without printer services and a
machine SO broken that the creator of the software causing the problem
couldn’t even fix it. Microsoft sucks and there is GREAT sense in rubbing it
in further!

The problem disappeared immediately after wiping out the HD and leaving SP2
off the system. Here is some great advice, DO NOT order boxes with XP having
SP2 that cannot be removed. DELL knows better since we have threatened to
chargeback the cost of all the department resources wasted on this particular
case.

So remember, if you receive this error, “Operation could not be completed.
The print spooler service is not running.â€, and after countless hours with
none of the following remedies working:

sfc /scannow
cleanspl.exe
sc config spooler depend= RPCSS
net start spooler
Article Q324757, etc.

“86†your SP2 and your problems will be solved

…been REAL fun!

The problem disappeared immediately after wiping out the HD and leaving SP2
off the system. He is some advise that's worth a bunch, consi
