Friend wants to download sp2 -has read M.S. how to's BUT need help as newbie
1-How do you disable the Mcafee security suite which has a firwall and real
time protection
2-can tirn off pop up blocker in msie, is there any other task related?
3-Will run daware and spyboy first. Also will run virus scan.
Thank you for the help as a foul download would be a disaser as she could
not reinstall.

It can be easier to use a Windows XP SP2 CD rather than download. Many
were freely distributed in 2004 by Microsoft.

Where can she find out about the megahertz the article referred to?

Well I'd bet she has more than a 233 MHz, but in any case, Right on MY
Computer then Left click Properties. You will be on the General tab, at the
bottom you will see the MHz.

Hi Grampy Pete,

Search over these forms as I know some of the MVP's has posted some
recommendations before installing SP2. Also fire up Google and do a search
for the following.....

things to do before installing sp2

You will find many hits, just make sure the ones you read pertain to your
system if possible. You will see some that really has nothing to do with
your hardware and software, so just pass them up.

A few things I'd suggest and IMO is a must.
1. Make sure your Antivirus is off or Disabled
2 .Do a Disk Cleanup before installing
3. Do a defrag before installing
4. Disable anything not needed in your system tray or shut them down.
5. Order the CD from MS as oppose to downloading SP2
6.Make a complete backup of your data.
7. Run Adaware and Spybot to remove any spyware you may have.
8. Visit your manufactures website for any issues about SP2 on your machine.
9. Make sure you have your original XP CD in case something fails.

The installation for sp2 is done with the cable to get online diconnected
right?
