Windows encountered trouble

G

Grampy Pete

xp sp2 msie6

I keep getting the error message "Windows has encountered a problem and must
shut down." Other error messages refer to msie having trouble.
The fix refers to disabling addons until I find the one that caused this
problem but it is not working.
I allowed the, Active X for Sonic Record Now's tutorial, and about that time
my Mcafee Security Suite was suddenly disabled for a couple of minutes until
I could enable it and this problem began. I have run Windows One care,
Mcafee's scan along with Spyware programs.
It could be all or none of the above.

If I installed msie 7 then uninstalled it would msie6 be corrected? I say
uninstall as I did not like 7.
Any solid suggestions appreciated.
Thank you

There was a fix to correct this after the LAST windows update. Run Windows
update again and see if you have that fix on. If not, apply it.

Raoul-please;
1- First, if the update does not help, what do you man about apply it?
2-Next, I was in my hotmail account and clicked on the link to contact you
but nothing happened - I had to come here and find you
Please note this occurred just after I got a notice in hotmail something
about it will cost $49. to get alerts so I declined. Since then I cannot
respond to my regular messages such as this.
Is there something you could advise me about besides the first issue.
I appreciate your time and Thank you.

Did you tried system restore pete to before this happned to you?.
What do you mean by I must Pay$49 to fix, who sent you this Notice?.
Either your system hijacked and there is an open port for this hijack to
take place or you get a spam e-mail, which one of them?.
HTH.

I did sytem restore just after the explorer was closing me down.
Re: $49 I got a notice that alerts could be sent to me for $ so I declined.
I don't know who it was - it seemed to be windows
Re:Hijacked. It could be that but I don't know how a person can tell if a
keylogger got in. Is there anyway to find out if someone has entered a port.
I have a router besides the other security devices. How can I tell?

Nass I do not remeber getting any email so how do I detect and remove a
hijacker?
Is there a way to change ports in a router?

Hi pete,
Well, it depends on what programs you have installed and do you use
Messenger and share files/folders with others?.

The router Has a Firewall that can be set to protect your Network from bad
traffics and block them, beside your Installed Security suite on the
Machine(s) to scan for viruses and malware and block unwanted or viruses
which can still bypass the router!.

You may have a Trojan fake alert or Vundo variant or Zalob or Zango lurking
in your system...still this a guess not certain though!.

Go through these Cleaning steps:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Tabs:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:

Scan for malware from here:
SuperAntispyware - Free
http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html

Run a scan from here on-line:
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
Download Avast Cleaner (offline scanner) from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html

Lots of tools to download and disinfect your machine (offline scanner):
http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Downloads/browseFreeRemovalTool/

After the scan run disk cleanup on your drive.

2- Download the Hijackthis and send the report to one of many
forums for analysis and troubleshooting:
http://www.merijn.org/index.php
When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis) is
the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. Post
your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate
forums for expert analysis, not here.

Please don't send the Hijackthis log here, but you can let us know the
result of the scan for both malware and viruses, also any progress.
Good luck.

First, it is not advisable to list your real email addy in any newsgroup.

Second, I implied that you run Windows update to see if there's a fix to
your problem (which there was for me and others I know).

The one place that started all this and shuts down immediately is anything
to do with Sonic Record Now or its forum in Roxio forums. I just can't tell
which add on it is so; 1-I'm going to persue that and 2- I am in
communication with a Microsoft pro by email. Let's hope it works
One question please, after this is over, my Netgear Rp614 v3 hs Nat and some
other encrypted type of writing - not elaborate . If someone has the port and
I cannot configure any thing isn't it true the router is no longer good?
Thanx for all your help.

Hi pete,
Did you find anything on the machine to confirm that your system has been
Hijacked?.

If it is started with sonic DVD try to update the sonic software and see if
that will solve the problem?.

Look in the event viewer for error messages and post them back here in your
next post.

Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will need it
later for this step to copy the error message on it.
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr.msc click [OK] you will get the Event viewer control Panel.
click on each of these:
Application
System
Security
Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or Yellow
exclamation mark /!\ , double click each one to get more info about the
causer.
On the Event error properties message you will see:
Up Arrow
Down arrow
Two pages
Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the Notepad
you opened earlier and right click on the first line and select Paste from
the list, this will paste the error message on a Notepad.
Please don't duplicate the error message one of each kind will be sufficient.

Please we need just the error messages with Red (X) and don't repeat the
error, just one of each kind and post them back in your next post.
