SP2 - FTP and Worl wide web services

Cathy

I have just installed sp2, and went to run windows update
again to update .net framework to sp1 and it downloaded
the program but hangs on the initialization and
installation.

I looked at the event log. On bootup, i have error 7022
The FTP Publishing service hung on starting. Looking at
startup services and it says start pending? This is also
the case for The World Wide Web Publishing service hung
on starting, and the fax services.
I tried to start the services but the option to start and
stop the service is not available. I tired looking at
windows components and it says this program is already
running.

What is causing these services not to start. Windows
update obiously needs one of them as 2 hours later it is
still initilizing installation...

how can i fix it?

Thankyou.
I have Windows XP Media Centre SP2

Cathy,

I don't know this particular problem and so have no specific
solution. I can only tell you what I would do in such a
situation if I couldn't find any better solution.

I would try to remove the relevant server components (IIS),
using Control Panel, Software, Add/Remove Windows Components,
then reboot and reinstall them again. After that I would go to
windowsupdate.microsoft.com and reinstall any patches that the
service recommends.

Unfortunately it is quite possible that new problems crop up
when you do this, but I know no better way.
