SP2 Download Interrupted?

Salahuddin

Im a little confused at what is happened here and I was
wondering if someone could please help me out. I decided
to install Windows SP2 today and clicked the automatic
updates bubble on my taskbar (my automatic updates is set
to "notify me but don't automatically download or install
updates") and clicked download SP2. I moved my mouse
cursor back over the little updates icon on the taskbar
and saw that popup read "downloading 0%" I figured I'd
go take a shower as it was downloading but when I came
back the icon was gone. Usually I have to click the icon
again after the download has completed to install the
update. I don't think my computer went into standby
during this time, but I guess it was possible.

In any case, I restarted my computer and even fooled
around with the autoupdate settings, but I can't seem to
get the autoupdate icon to popup again. I'm pretty sure
I have NOT installed SP2... the install logs in
C:\Windows confirm this, as does the lack of any entry
for SP2 in ADD/REMOVE programs. Plus, when I go the the
Windows Update website, it tells me to update to SP2,
although it says automatic updates is the only way to do
this.

Anyone know what is going on or how I can get the
automatic update icon back?

Thanks,

Salahuddin

Your experience is similar to mine, except I didn't even get
the "downloading 0%" notification - the Update icon just disappeared.
Happened the same way on two computers (that share a cable
connection).

.

I had the same. I read somewehere in this newsgroup that
this is MS way of guaging the amount of bandwidth needed
to auto update the thousands of OC around the world.
Apparently, SP2 will REALLY be available next for
everyone. At least that is what I have been reading in
this newsgroup.
