SP2 Bluetooth Problem

I just upgraded one of my computers to XP SP2 (PRO), and did all the updates
to that.

I have a USB Bluetooth adapter, that functioned fine on that computer
before.

Before doing the upgrade to SP2, I uninstalled the existing Widcomm
Bluetooth software, as I thought with SP2 I'd give the Microsoft Bluetooth
stack a try.

Now, after upgrading to SP2, I plug in the USB BT adapter, and nothing
happens. I look in Device Manager, and it does not appear.

There is no Bluetooth Control Panel in Control Panel. I type in "run" the
file name of that panel, and nothing happens. I find that .cpl file in
Explorer, double-click on it, and nothing happens.

I tried :"Add Hardware Wizard", in different ways, couldn't get it to work.

What's going on?

Do I have to reinstall the Widcomm software? Why doesn't the Microsoft
Bluetooth recognize my device? Why won't its control panel start, although
the file exists?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall the Bluetooth
Software. Restart and re-install.

Thank you. An interesting article, but it doesn't address the problem I
discussed.

Actually, since I wrote the earlier post, I have got Bluetooth working. How?
By installing the driver that came with the USB adapter. That installed the
Widcomm 3 BT stack again. I saw no option to use the Microsoft BT stack.

Here is one quote from the article you cited:

"If an existing non-Microsoft Bluetooth driver is installed, upgrading to
Windows XP Service Pack 2 does not cause the existing driver to be replaced.
It can be replaced later, either manually or programmatically."

Well, at the time I installed SP2, no BT driver was installed, as I had
uninstalled it before installing SP2. So theoretically, the MS BT driver
should have been installed upon SP2 installation. It didn't happen.

Now I do have the Widcomm stack again. There is the statement "It can be
replaced later, either manually or programmatically." But no explanation how
to do that replacing. Anyone know?
