After spending countless hours on the phone with MS techs, I still am
unable to install the Stand Alone SP1. Since SP1 would not download from
the Update site (which it did appear on), I was told to download the Stand
Alone and save to my desktop. It downloaded after a little over an hour,
but every time it loads half way through the first stage, says there is an
Internal Error (Code 800B0100). There is a page to go to for instructions
and I have run the checkdisk, scannow, and memory diagnostic tool several
times to no avail. Today the tech tried to install it in Safe Mode with
everything disabled - still no install past the same spot and it's the
same code. He said he has to consult with others and will call again
tomorrow. After four days of calls, etc. I am very frustrated. Do any of
you have any ideas as to why the download will not install? All ideas
appreciated!
I tried eight times without success, both via update and on the downloaded
file. On the next (and successful!) try, I booted up my Vista Home Premium
in 'safe ' mode, ran the downloaded file, and it went through. I hope this
can help others out there who have suffered the pain and frustration of SP1.
Regards...

I too am having trouble installing SP1 onto a Vista 64 Ultimate machine. I
have a Dell 490 dual Xeon and the update has failed 4 times, always with the
same error. I saw some postings bout the readiness check, so I checked my CBS
log. I had 7 errors, one was fixed; so I have 6 problems that need resolution.

He is supposed to call me tonight and I will suggest this to him. Is this,
possibly, what he downloaded to Notepad that looked like a list of Windows
files?

Update - tonight, after another two hours of the tech trying to install SP1
with no success, he ran the MS Diagnostics Tool and said he would call
tomorrow IF they find a solution. I asked him about the Resource Kit and he
told me that he had already tried that. In the meantime I have a computer
with no firewall, no virus protection, and many things changed. Somehow I do
not feel very assured that he will find a solution and/or call - and wonder
if I should re-install the virus protection and turn on the firewall. Any
suggestions?
