SP-2 and Mouse Drift

Today I sucessfully installed SP-2 from CD onto my laptop
and desktop. The only anomoly I've noticed is that my
mouse pointer occasionally drifts up to an inch while
hands-off on the mouse on both machines. I had never seen
that before installing SP-2. Could there be a connection?
Thanks.

I don't intend to be sarcastic - though it may sound like I am.

If your mouse/cursor worked fine before sp2 and now it doesn't, the problem is NOT your toaster - it's ?????

Well, I won't patronize either of you by stating the
obvious but your posts are clear proof that nothing in
computing is rational or obvious and any unrelated
failure in Windows is possible.

Now, does anyone have anything positive to contribute?

Hi Irish,

What kind of mouse are you using? I haven`t encounter
that problem, but have seen rogue mice and trackballs
before. Usually I just uninstall the mouse drivers and
reinstall it. Not sure about your situation.

Try this

Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options > uncheck "Enhance Pointer
Precision"

So . . now we have the cure/potential cure for the mess sp2 makes is to disable OS features. I wonder if all these features - MICROSOFT features, by the way -will make it onto their 'problem items list'? We read many hundreds of posts spouting 'third party, third party, third party'.

The more I read on the sp2 subject - and it's been VERY extensive over the past few days - the more I realize the cry should be 'Microsoft, Microsoft, Microsoft!

Jon,

That seems to be the solution - so far so good. Thanks
very much for the tip.

hi Jack-ass,

Actually I have seen posts for this kinda problem on XP
SP1, W2K and Win 98, so its not isolated to XP SP2. Do
your homework before you point the finger at SP2.
