sound won't play on specified mci device

Music files added to powerpoint use to play, now I get an MCI error message
that reads "the specified file can not be played on the specified MCI device.
The file may be corrupt, not in the correct formay, or no fil". I have
deleted the files from the powerpoint program and re-added them with same
result. The sound files play on other media.

If you go to Start/Run and type in mplay32.exe, do the files play in that
media player?

What file format are the music files? Where did they come from?

The files do not play in mplay32.exe. I get a message that says "cannot
determine the device type from the given filename extension" The files are
mp3 files and have played fine in powerpoint before. They still play in
windows media player and Musicmatch Jukebox. I did use Musicmatch Jukebox to
edit the names of the songs, but I have deleted them from the powerpoint
program and readded them since then and they still won't play. Clicking on
properties of the files it still shows as an mp3 file.

Something has changed your MCI settings and it can no longer play these
files. the easy solution to set it all right is to re-install Windows Media
Player from the MS web site.

I'm pretty sure the problem is Music Match. Try using a different program to
rip the MP3 files.
