How do you record the background sounds through Sound Recorder? (e.g.
i want to record the sounds I'm hearing through the computer speaker
as a file on Sound Recorder)

What are these sounds coming from, and when?

The reason I ask is that if you are hearing a sound - to take, for example,
the Windows Startup sound - from the PC, it already exists as a digital
sound file and there isn't a need to re-record them.

What you would do is look at the application you're using, make a note of
what you're doing when the sound is heard, then look at the options to
identify the sound file name.

I'm trying to record an online call on Skype actually. I want to
record what I'm hearing through my headset and what I'm saying through
the microphone. Can you do that?

I tried enabling the "WaveOut Mix" under "Recording Devices", but it
didn't work.

Ok, that's a completely different scenario, and you can't do this with
Windows Recorder. You could probably do it with a 3rd party app that
records streams, such as Windows Media Recorder.

Ah ok then. Well in that case, I still want to know how do I get the
Waveout Mix thing to work?

On my old XP computer, it worked just fine. I could record background
sounds, anything, I could record calls with that too, actually.

When I go to Recording Devices, there is Microphone and Waveout Mix.
I can record from Microphone, but not from Waveout Mix. Waveout Mix
is marked as "unavailable", and when I try to record with it, it says
the recording device cannot be found. I don't know why it doesn't
work.

Thanks
Jeff
