I'm having some sound problems, I have sound blaster live
and recently updated to the latest patches etc
I use music match for converting midi files to mp3, for
christian worship, for some reason my music match program
has developed lots of scratchy noise whenever I try to
record any songs from the system mixer, I tried the
following. removing creative recorder, no joy.
reinstalling the sound card drivers for windows, can't
seem to locate them all, where can I find them on the net?
creative only has their drivers and that seems to be
causing the problems.
I even uninstalled MM and reinstalled, now I can't get
anything from the system mixer and I've chose that as the
source, it just drops to the next line, when it can't find
any music or sound on the mixer. I'm stumped..HELP!

Thanks, I found that site this morning, however not sure
if this will solve my problems, as the sound card works
it puts out sound, it's just the music match program
when I want to record that's hosed, since this is not a
windows problem (or could it be), I should look elsewhere.
I'll do more work on it in the next couple of days.
I think w2k is acting strange on me right now.

I don't know what "music match" is, or does. Sorry. The "scratchy" may
be caused by the "location" the amplification for the recording is being
done at. For instance turn up the amplification at "music match" and
turn down the amplification at the "mixer" to reduce the amplification
of "background" noise.

I don't that's the problem, things were working fine
till I did the latest update/patch from MS.
also I installed creatives version of the recorder.
Musicmatch jukebox is a program that allows you to record
music from various sources, it does the same job as windows
media player, just better.
Personally I think the problem is either the drivers for MM
have gotten corrupted or the drivers for windows , I
uninstalled/reinstalled MM and it works for a short period
of time, then part way through a recording it gives that
radio static kind of noise throughout the song, so I
managed to partially fix it. I may have to removed the
sound board from the system and all it's drivers
and reinstall, if I can find the blasted drivers cd
I thought it was on the w2k install cd, but no!!
it's looking for the latest Windows media player drivers
and I don't have them, it was an update from the Ms site.

Never, EVER install anything except critical updates from M$. If you
installed any sound card driver updates from M$ that is probably what
caused the problem. If not then selectively remove the other M$ updates
you applied until you find the one that is the culprit.

Is a microphone plugged in? Perhaps it has fallen down the back of the desk and
is scratching against something...
