Sound Problem

The sound suddenly stopped working on one of my customer's PCs, and I am at a
loss about what caused it. The machine is running WinXP Home SP2, has
onboard RealTek sound, which is disabled, and a Creative Audigy card. I
enabled the RealTek, switched the speakers, and switched the defaults over to
see if it was the Creative card itself causing the problems. After switching
back and forth several times, I have come to the conclusion that it is a
setting not a problem with the sound card or onboard sound. I have checked
all of the "normal" settings as well as updated to the most recent driver for
the Audigy. The sound is not muted and all the defaults are set correctly.
She says that the sound stopped working when she unplugged the USB mouse then
plugged it back in. Does anyone have any suggestions for some other obscure
setting (or anything else) that may be causing this?

See if anything here might help:

Thanks, but I've already run through all the normal sound troubleshooting
steps that are covered there.
