Sound Everywhere except Internet Explorer

Echy

Hello

First time here so hope I'm not repeating recent threads.

I have a computer running Windows XP Pro Plenty of RAM, processing
power & HDD space. The sound (sound on motherboard) is missing from
Internet Explorer 6.0. The speakers are external and the sound is
working for CD's and DVD's but not for any websites. The speakers are
external. Have checked the volume control via the icon on the task bar
and on the speakers themselves and all looks OK.

This is something new, was working until a couple of weeks back. Have
not added any new hardware or software (except updates for Vet
anti-virus - a CA product, Ad-aware, Spybot S & D, Windows Defender,
CCleaner & SpywareBlaster)

Wondering what I have done wrong?

Any help appreciated.

Hi Echy,

In your Control Panel choose the Sounds and Audio Devices Applet. On the
Sounds tab you will find the sounds for Program events, scroll down to
Windows Explorer to choose the sound files for Windows and Internet
Explorer.

In IE go to Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab, scroll down to the
Multimedia section, make sure "Play sounds in web pages" is checked, click
Apply, click Okay. If no joy, double click the volume icon in the
notification area to bring up the entire Play Control panel and make sure
the Wave and MIDI volumes are not down.
