The volume control is not displayed on the task bar

In the Control Panel Sound and Audio Device Properties, these are displayed.

Volume tab No Audio Device“ is displayed.

Audio tab Default Device “DirectSound: Modem #0 Line Playback†is displayed.

This value can not be changed, has anyone idea as other options exist.

Default DirectSound Device, Default WaveOut Device, DirectSound: Realtek
AC97 Audio and Realtek AC97 Audio.

Thanks,

Pringle

Thanks for the update Wesley.

I have followed all the instructions listed.

As Modem #0 Line Playback is used in the speech and speakers settings,
there must be someway to change it to one of the options mentioned below.

Previously the volume icon appeared in the task bar and when selected the
volume control dialog was displayed, this is no longer happening.

It sounds like you have no sound card, the modem is apparently being used as
a sound card. No pun intended. ;-) I don't know anything about dialup
modems.

Normally when the volume control is selected an equalise appears.

Have you any idea what this component is?

In there anything in the registry that could be missing?
