Sorting contacts when mail merge, Outlook 2003

I have problem with sorting my contacts when I want to choose a contact from
my contactlist. I start with the mail merge from Word, but when I have come
so far that I have my contacts from Outlook visible, I must go to the sort
window to search. Before it was possible just to click on the button on top
of the column, but now nothing happens. Have anyone had the same proble?

We do not know what you mean by "before".

Always start merges from Outlook and select the Contacts you want to merge
to. That avoids the typos of problmes you are facing.

With Word closed, go to Outlook, select the Contacts, Tools, Mailmerge .....

I have had this function running on my old computer, but now I have installed
Office on a new one.

Do you mean that I choose my contact in Outlook and then select my template
*.dot. What shall I do after that?
Now I mean that my document should be ready.
In my template I have "Surname", "Lastname" and so on. Must I go to tools an
run Merge even in Word?

We still don't know what "before" means or what version you have now.

Try my steps. They work in every version:
Close Word
Open Outlook
Select the Contacts you want to merge to
Tools
Mailmerge
Select new document/email/existing document - whatever you want to merge
to. If you select Existing Doc you need to browse to it.
Click OK
Word will open up now.
Use the Insert Merge Fields button to add the fields you want to your doc.
Press Merge
Say OK (twice I think)
Done.
