How do I turn this "feature" off? I already have Avast running!
I also posted in alt.os.windows.xp, and googled...

If I understand you correctly you are referring to the Anti-Virus monitor of
XP SP2 Security Centre. It isn't an anti-virus scanner it let's you know if
your anti-virus software stops working - leave it alone!

Update your Avast to the newest 4.6 version so the Security center
notification disappears.
