Hi there.. I have a Sony Vaio Notebook.. it came with Windows Home Edition
preinstalled.. I was having some problem with the OS so i use the Repair
option using a Windows XP that i have at home.. It completed the installation
process but when the system tries to start the graphical interface i get an
lsass.exe error saying that there's not enought memory or the paging file its
to small to continue the process and it reboots.. My notebook have 256Mb of
RAM and have a Intel Centrino Procesador...

Any solution??? Please!

I suspect that your drive letters have changed. Windows is now
trying to establish a paging file on a drive that no longer exists.
Here are a few options to resolve the situation, listed in order
of preference:

1. Reboot in Safe Mode, then change the letter of the System drive.
2. Buy a $20.00 USB enclosure for your 2.5" disk, install the laptop
disk in it, connect it to some other WinXP/2000 PC and modify
the registry off-line.
3. Reboot with a linux boot disk, then edit the registry in off-line mode.
4. Re-install Windows.

Post again for instructions for Options 1 to 3 after finding out
which ones are available. Note that Options 2 and 3 are best
performed by an experienced person.

Because the only boot disk I know that can edit the registry
happens to be a Linux disk.

In this case I recommend Option 2. Is it feasible? If not then
it's probably Option 4.

I'm talking about the Nordahl boot disk. It lets you edit
the registry off-line. I've tried it on Win2000 and WinXP
Professional. As I suggested, it's a rough ride and not
something that a novice should undertake. It involves
opening the registry from the command line, navigating
to the desired location, then changing the boot drive letter.
Your own suggestion of running chkdsk is far simpler,
and I hope that it works for the OP.

I forgot about that one. It obviously has a much more friendly
user interface than the Nordahl boot disk.

Bart's PE also allows access to the NTFS file system and the Registry in
"offline" mode.

Beat's the Linux disk hands down, in my opinion. With all the various plug-ins, its invaluable in the hands of a moderately competent user.

Try MSFT Knowledge Base #249321 & #223188.

I don't know if either exist anymore.

Have a nice one...
