Sony USB 2.0 128 MB stick - problem

I bought Sony USB 2.0 stick (massive storage device) and had this problem.
When I copy files from a hard disk to the stick, some of the copied files
become corrupt. It happens especially when I copy any form of compressed
files, I get bad CRC message when I try to unzip files, installation exe
files won't start, mp3's won't play. So I got it back to the store and it
was replaced with another Sony, the same thing happened again (on 3
different computers).
I don't know what could be the problem, now I doubt that it was possible
that 2 same devices could be faulty and after searching the net I
still haven't found anywhere an information about this problem. (I use
WinXP, SP1).
Does anybody know anything about it? I really have no idea and it's really
been frustrating so far.

I would check in order: the reader, its cable, usb port. I would suspect
the reader. A bad batch of sticks could be possible, but I doubt it.

Does it make any difference to copy a large file or a small one?

Not really... As I said, IIRC, it happens only with compressed files (zip,
mp3, avi, jpg, etc., no matter the size). And usually it doesn't happen with
files that are copied first, but those that come last. Any idea?
