Sony handycam to Moviemaker

I'm trying to edit my analog video from my sony camera. I put the video on a
dvd through a dvd recorder and then try to read the files onto my computer
through my dvd r/w player on my computer. But the files don't translate or
import to my xp moviemake program. If I use nero to turn the files into mpeg
files, the files import to moviemaker but then I only get audio when I put
them on the edit timeline. Question:......How should I do this?.....I know I
should just go out and by a mini dv camera.....but this video camera works
great......I really enjoy using moviemaker so any input would really help.
