When I open my Documents or Computer and look at the folders I have, some of
the folder icons are bad. Instead of the yellow or blue folders, I get the
missing icon picture. This is true for a bunch of folders including
Application Data, My Music, My Pictures, My Videos, Documents and Settings,
NetHood, PrintHood, Recent, Start Menu, and many others.
I tried deleting the IconCache.db file and rebooting. That did not work. I
also deleted all my desktop.ini files and rebooted. That did not help. When I
right click and check out the properties, the icon chosen is good. And when I
select another, it refuses to show. I am ready to sell my Vista laptop and
buy a Mac. I am starting to really hate Vista. I never had so many problems
in Windows before Vista.
How can I get my folders to show the proper icons? Also, when I am in
folders, some files show this same missing icon icon. For example, when I
look at my Start Menu, all the shortcut files have this same icon. It is
really pathetic that this advanced OS looks so crappy. I am now in search of
a Windows Explorer alternative.
Any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks,
Scott
