software to edit movies

hi

i made a few movies in england and on holiday.
I am bit of a novice but I want to put the clips together and copy, paste parts of films together, add a little effects here and there and block out some faces.

What software do I need to do this?

how is the windows movie maker?

movie maker is pretty basic but if your not after anything fancy it'll do what your after, if you want to do something more advanced as much as i dislike sony, their sony vegas studio is pretty decent but kinda complicated

this camera happens to be a sony one too
its a camera but its got a basic video capability.

problem with windows movie maker:

C:\pictures\MOV06219.MPG could not be imported. Unspecified error


mmm any ideas?
none of my videos seem to work on this program they are all mpg files aswell

movie maker can be a bit temperamental with some video formats

damn after download that sony software:

MPEG Encoding
Rendering and opening of MPEG is disabled in the Vegas Movie Studio trial. Buy the full version and get unlimited support to open and save MPEG-1 and MPEG-2.

what a bugger

ive heard good things abt pinnacle studio
but thats so expensive

thats a PITA

you could convert it using the divx converter then edit it but that could take a while

i wonder what ppl use to get their files on sites like youtube surely ppl do edit

im gona look out for pinnacle studio the full edition think my friend uses it to edit movies ill ask him
