Joining two movies

Is it possible to combine all or part of one movie with
another? I have put together about half a dozen clips
with effects that I may well use as a standard intro
sequence for other movies. I tried to copy and paste from
one timeline to the other but it didn't want to know. I
suppose I could just store those multi-purpose clips in a
Collection and re-use them from there, but then I would
lose the transitions.
Suggestions plse?
Thanks

Hi There,

Absolutely yes. But you have me a bit confused when you seem to mention having
two time lines.

Anyway.

Assuming that both or all of the movies are contained within one or more
collection.

1) Select the first movie and drag it to the time line.
2) If you need to select another collection (the one containing the second
movie clip)
3) Select the movie and drag to the time line and to the right hand side of the
first clip.

When you release the mouse on the second and subsequent clips they will all
join up nicely leaving no gaps....That makes for perhaps to sharp a transition
between movies, so....

A) Of two clips select the one on the right.
B) Slowly drag the clip to the left so that its beginning overlays the end of
the other.
C) Using the small plus sign close to the time line zoom in as far as you can
go.
D) move the time line left or right so that you can now see the smaller bar
showing the amount of overlay...its just below the video track
E) Place cursor over the left edge of this bar so that the cursor changes shape
to a left bracket with an arrow.
F) Hold down left mouse button and you will see a small tool tip appear showing
you how much (In Time) overlap there is.
G) With the mouse button depressed move the left side of the overlay bar either
left or right until the desired overlay is achieved.

Bet you think that's it Eh ???

Select a transition from the transitions folder and with the left mouse button
depress drag it and drop on the overlay bar. Doing this will cause the time
line cursor to jump to the beginning of the transition. You can then preview
that transition and determine whether you like it or not. Dragging another
transition effect from the collection will replace the previous one...you can
do this as many times as you like or until the wife/girlfriend express's a view
about that.

Great, thanks John. Can't wait to try it as soon as Mrs
Freecell grants me access. Tenth game of the day is
currently minimized. I've sneaked on here ahead of agreed
time slot. (Know any ISPs that give you a second PC if
you upgrade to Broadband??)
To clarify my mention of two timelines...I created the
clips individually and saved them as a movie and it is
only then, with their effects and transitions added, and
placed in the particular sequence, that they have value
for use elsewhere. So I was assuming that to use them I
would need to grab them from the timeline of the movie
where I had saved them, and drop them into the second
movie timeline "as a set" rather than taking the clips
through a Collection, one by one.
Anyway, I'll give it a go and will let u know.
Tks as ever

Hi there,

Yes I understand now. Provided you do not stop Movie Maker then yes, you can do
what you want. Simply click one of the items on the first time line and then
press CTRL-A followed by CTRL-C. Then load the second project, move the Time
Line Cursor to the location of you choice and press CTRL-V.

That should do it for you....
