editing a movie

I'm new to this. Somehow I lost the project I was working on. I was able to
retrieve most of it but ONLY IN SAVED THE MOVIE VERSION. Now, my timeline
looks totally different in that several clips are in one frame. When I try
to add a collection, etc., it adds at the end of the movie. I, obviously,
was not finished and now I need to know if I have to start completely over!
Please advise!

Thanks a million.

It sounds like you saved the Movie which would
be a single file with a .wmv or .avi extension.

For re-editing purposes you need the Project file
which would have an .mswmm extension. I'm
thinking you did not save the Project file. Look
in your...My Documents / My Videos...folder for
..mswmm files. Double left clicking a .mswmm
file will launch it in Movie Maker.

If you failed to save the Project file...starting
over may be your best bet.

In the future...you can save your Project file by
going to...File / Save Project As or Type...F12.

Save your movie file as follows:

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...
