Software Incompatability with IE 7

This is kind of an emergency for us. A customer of ours uses Crystal Viewer
to access their reports. This has worked great for years. Recently, some of
their clients have complained and we have verified that the existing ActiveX
control for Crystal Viewer is not compatible with IE 7.0. The solution has
been to downgrade back to IE 6.0 which has worked.

Starting this week we have a situation where IE 7.0 is the only browser
that's ever been on the computer and there is nothing to downgrade to. Could
readers of this post please suggest how to get either a second IE browser on
board or how to downgrade a pristine install of IE 7.0?

We are working on a permanent solution but it could take quite a while.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Allan,

Did he install the latest SP for Crystal Reports?

Yes, there is a way of having two versions of IE in one machine. The easiest
way is to install Virtual PC and run IE6 from within that Virtual PC.

Could that be a solution?

Hi Allan,
You won't be able to downgrade to IE6 on Vista, I had a look for an upgrade
for the ActiveX control from Crystal Reports (businessobjects.com) but did
not see any so I am not sure if this is a know issue with the ActiveX report
control. Check with your Crystal Reports vendor if there is an upgrade for
IE7 or a workaround.

As a last resort, you may like to try the Maxthon, Deepnet or Avant browsers
for usability in this instance, all are IE derived and ActiveX capable.

Regards.

Thanks for your reply Hans:

We are using version 8 and 9 of Crystal, latest SP. I just got off the phone
with Crystal and they do not support IE 7! And, they will not until until
version 12 ships much later this year.

I can't give our clients a lot of hassle. I have to give them a simple
method, either downgrade if possible or install another IE instance. Do you
or anyone listening know the best way to install another instance of IE? Can
i downgrade IE 7 when it was the orginal and only IE installed?

Thank you in advance.
