Snap, Crackle and Pop

Will Microsoft ever fix the 27th frame drop from every clip and the resulting associated audio and audio/music tracks skip/click/pop?

Top 10 Reasons to Use Windows Movie Maker 2

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/top10.mspx

#1 -Make Movies Like a Pro

Windows Movie Maker 2 comes with built-in slides, background music, and sound effects so you can make entertaining movies your friends will actually want to see.

Do Pros also put up with dropped frames and the resulting audio skip/click/pop? I think not.

#5 - Highest Quality Video and Audio

With support for the latest Windows Media® compression technology, Windows Movie Maker 2 gives you the clearest video and crispest audio ever.

Now that's an out right lie. Dropped frames and audio skip/click/pops are "highest quality video and audio", "clearest video and crispest audio ever"? I think not.

Skippy is a peanut butter brand and shouldn't be included in a "High Quality" A/V editor.

Microsoft, would you please fix this problem already. It's been around since version 2.0. One would think a quality issue such as this would be high on the priority list of fixes. Yet even with the release of 2.1 the issue remains and has existed for years.

Hi Al,

I'm looking for users to test my new custom profiles, as a alternative to saving and making DVDs via the DV-AVI format.... they on the Saving Movies > Custom WMV Profiles page of www.papajohn.org

I made the profiles to work-around the issues.

Hi PapaJohn,

I would like to test this new custom profile "Heading to DVD" (PAL version).

Could you say a bit more about it? What are the specs?

Using TMGEnc, what would be the procedure (simply encode from the wmv
file?).

Thank you

Michel

Thanks Michel,

Yes on using the WMV as the input file to either TMPGEnc or your DVD
software... whatever you usually use to transcode to the MPEG-2 files. If
your DVD software accepts WMV files, try it directly.

The video codec used is Quality VBR using the Windows Media Video9 Advanced
Profile.
The audio codec used is the Windows Media Audio 9.1 Lossless - VBR Quality
100, 44 kHz, 2 channel 16 bit
I checked 'allow interlaced processing' but my testing so far shows it
de-interlaces anyway if the input DV-AVI files are interlaced.
Video size - 720x576
25 fps
Key frame interval - 6 seconds
Video quality of 95

The bitrate and file size of the finished WMV should end up about the same
as the transcoded MPEG-2 files, about 1/3 as large as a DV-AVI file.
