SMTP server failing

Steve McEnerny

My copy of Outlook 2K3 has developed a weird problem,
only with one of my POP3 accounts (I use 5 regularly) and
only on sends. I consistently get the error:

Task 'Comcast - Sending' reported error
(0x800CCC61) : "Your outoing (SMTP) e-mail server has
reported an internal error. If you continue to receive
this message, contact your server adminstrator or
Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded:
556 null byte in data'

As I said, I can send mail using any of my other
accounts. Comcast claims it's not their problem, and it
wouldn't make any difference anyway since they only
support Outlook Express.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve,

I feel your pain because I have the same problem. I'm
searching for an answer if I find anything I will post it
here.

Hi Steve,

I finally fixed the problem for me. I was getting the
same message. It took me hours to find out what was
causing my problem. Try this and see if it helps you
like it did me. Go to Tools\E-mail accounts. Check the
Veiw or change existing E-mail accounts. Click Next.
Click Change. Click the More Settings button. Click the
Advanced tab. Check the box This server requires an
encrypted connection (SSL). Click OK.

Hope this works for you like it did for me,

Ron

Ron's advice worked for me. i started getting the same problem after i
installed Panda internet security. i could only send emails when i
disabled Panda's automatic protections. i use outlook express. i went
to Tools/Accounts/Default AccountProperties/Advanced/Outgoing SMTP
requires secure server box and checked it, and it solved the problem.
thanks Ron!
