Slow startup after installing XP Service Pack 1

Mike Daly

After I installed Service pack 1 on my Windows XP Home machine I noticed
that it took a little longer to go from the starting screens to the Welcome
/ Sign-in
screen. I get about 30 - 60 seconds of blank screen. Before I installed
the Service
Pack, it was less than 10 seconds. Is this normal or does anyone have an
idea on
what is causing this? I have seen no other problems after the install.

HP Pavilion 7935 with Anthon 1.3 mghz
Ram 612 Meg
Hard drive 1 - 40 gig with about 20 clear
Hard drive 2 - 80 gig
Geoforce 2 card - all drivers updated
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 - all drivers updated

Thanks, Mike

Yes, SP1 is the culprit of the slowdown. Check the
following: Start/ControlPanel/add or remove programs.
See if you have an update with Q811493 listed. If it is,
uninstall it, you can always reinstall it later.

Very bad advice. 811493 did cause a problem, however it was corrected on
5-28-03. If 811493 was installed after 5-28-03 there is no problem. Even if
811493 was installed before 5-28 any later update of 811493 would have
corrected the problem. IE the new 811493 would have replaced the old
version.
