Slow starting up PC

Running on Windows XP Home Edition

PC is very slow starting up.

Also have the following error message coming up in a seperate window.
C:\Windows\System32\VTTimer.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction
CS:0f6d IP:fffb OP:0f fb ff6d0f Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

Please tell me how to eliminate problem

Hi,

It might be the virtual dos machine files. Try this: Close all running
programs. Locate ntvdm.exe and wowexec.exe in the \Windows\System32 folder
and delete them (one or both are probably corrupt). Reboot the system. See
if the problem goes away, as the files will be replaced by ones from the
system cache (System File Protection at work).

Sorry for the delay in replying.

I have tried what you suggested but I keep getting the same error message.

Any further suggestions
