Slow right click

T

Just today, my right click context menu became very
unresponsive. After right clicking, it takes 30 to 45
seconds for my context(right click menu to display. Anyone
have any Ideas?

Thanks
Phil M.

yes.

Scroll down a couple of messages and you'll find the
thread about Norton Antivirus being involved in this.

I contacted Symantec support about the problem but have
yet to hear back from them beyond the auto-responder.

I experienced the same problem ysterday, 1/7/04, and it
has become worse today. Also detected slow down in
opening Norton Antivirus 2003 though that may be
unrelated. All other apps work and open quickly.

I also have a similar problem. My right click become very slow since yesterday. I launch Microsoft Word and Excel but they came up slower then usually. The other applications work fine
I noticed that it only happened when I connected to LAN. I already do virus scan for all compuetrs on the LAN
Anybody have answer?

Based on other posts and some experimentation, I've
discovered that the problem is that Symantec Norton Anti-
Virus Auto-Protect appears to be the culprit. It tries
to access an http server on the internet when a file is
right clicked (ip addresses may be 10.0.0.2, 10.0.0.3,
10.0.0.4 and port number is 80). The right click only
succeeds when this times out (which is why unplugging the
network cable also fixes the problem).

Resolution (temporary) appears to be to disable Auto-
Protect in NAV (at least until Symantec fix this).
