Slow Reboot XP

Yes I got hit by a multitude of viruses and malware recently but I thought I
recovered; everything worked, including the reboot proces, after fixing with
the above apps. I don't think that's the problem. Everyting now scans clean.

I did, however, play around with changing monitors just before this
happened. But the adapter lists as the same, and I'm now using my old
monitor.

When I reboot, the startup gets delayed a bit too long on the text section
building DMI pool, and then a text bar graph moves across the bottom for
(too long) a while, then the black screen with Windows logo and the moving
progress indicator stays on for an inordinately long time (perhaps minutes).
Then it loads personal settings in a timely maner (I bypass the logon
screen) and XP desktop loads normally.

I don't see anything strange in startup of msconfig.

What could be delaying the reboot?

Restart in Safe Mode, disable Screensaver and run a defrag. Also do a disk
clean up to remove and unwanted and temporary files that might slowing your
system restarts.

- Nehmo -
I already defraged both HDs (I have two). And I've deleted the
contents of the temp folders and I've deleted temp files that System
Mechanic found.

What does that text-made progress bar mean in the start-up? What's
happening then?

Funny, I can only see this message in Google - not on my news-server.

operator of the machine that produces coffee, agonised:

I tried ServicePack 2 on WinXP Pro. - Never should have done that.
Though I only used Winblows on a small partition, it really stunk!!
And Pop-ups and warnings all over the place!
I deleted my Winblows-partition now, and only use Mandrake Linux..
Never problems with it !!

What are you going to do when you need to use the computer for something
useful?

And updates.. You don't have to reboot 70 times after - not even once :)
