Slow internet browsing

We have a DSL internet connection, but in the last week it
has gotten really slow. I check the connection but it is
not the problem. When ever we browse it takes for ever
for the web page to open up. It is slower than dial-up.
I have downloader all updates, checked for viruses,
defrag, and scan disk, nothing seems to work. Any ideas
of what it could be and how to resolve it?

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
