Slow dvd writer

Windows media centre on, hp pavillion m7670 uk
TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS-H653L


Problem, my DVD writer only shows 2x and 4x speed, it should go to 8x
The discs I am using show 8x in another PC

I have phone HP, who were of little overall help.

Checking the web it looks like windows may not be usining DMA mode.
The advice was to go to control panel and enable it under the "IDE
ATA/ATAPI" section.
THAT SECTIONIS NOT THERE, cananyone help?

Please ignore this post.
I just tried a different manufacturers disc and my system will burn at 8x.
It looks like the current discs and my burner dont like each other.

Every DVD writer will read the blank media disk's encoded "media code"
in order to determine that max write speed.
