Slow Domain access & browsing

Setup a customer w/ main site (where Win2003Sever AD domain controller is), &
3 remote sites. All connected via DSL using a Netscreen 5GTs for VPNs. All
work fantastic. Owner wanted access from residence so bought another 5GT &
Dell workstation. I thought good, easy money. So i thought.

I set the netscreen vpn up, verified connectivity as i could ping from
workstation to the server, server to the workstation. Since this is his
house, i handled the dns slightly differently. In the 5GT, i had it assign
the DNS from the ISP, but in the workstation, i static assigned the server's
DNS. Did some checks, both home computers (home home & home workstation)
could access Internet. I thought i was done. But when actually logging on
to the domain w/ the workstation, it takes about 10min. From everything i
could research, its DNS problem on workstation. Once logged in, browsing the
domain is slow. I cant add any of the printers or copy files listed because
i get a timeout error. I can see everything which tells me im on, but cant
access. I did some speed test & the connection get about 4.5dwn, 600k up on
DSL, so i dont think its a bandwidth issue. None of the other sites have
this problem when accessing the network.

Any suggestions?

Brian,

Using a Windows DNS server for name resolution in an AD domain requires specific
settings on both the clients and the server.

So you'll have to figure out how to make the above suggestions work in the case
in question. I'd bet that the computer right now is using NetBT broadcast.
Combine that with browsing thru VPN over DSL, and slow response may not be
abnormal.

What type of DSL is in use here? In the other cases, where no problems were
observed? That might be relevant too.

It might help to look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config
server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and from one of the
properly working computers (earlier remote site), so we can diagnose the
problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):
