slow browsing Home network

Mike

Hi,

I hava a home network wih 3 computers.
Two XP Prof and one XP Home machine.
Browsing in my home network is fast, except when I browse the XP Home
computer. Only when I turn the XP Firewall off completely (XP Home
computer), everything is fine.
File and Printer Sharing exception is enabled when the Windows Firewall is
enabled. How can I fix this little problem?

Thanks in advance,

Take a look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net
config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this
article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):

And make sure that NetBT is explicitly Enabled on both computers.

Hi Chuck,

I tried ipconfig and net commands before.
Everything is OK, I think.
I have no problems browsing My Network Places, Entire Network, etc.
Only when I want to acces PC2 (Laptop with XP Home) in THUIS (my Dutch
workgroup name) with the Home firewall turned on. The delay is 20 seconds.

With browstat I found out that PC2 was elected as the master browser.(?)
I aplied the registry settings and elected PC1.
But the little problem persist..

Regards,

Mike.

OK, Mike,

So show the results. Maybe there's something in there that I didn't explain too
well yet.

Hi Chuck,

The problem is solved.
Recently I upgraded my DSL connection.
It is the same ISP, but both IP adress and Login name changed.
When I reconfigured the modem/ router, the XP Home PC was probably not
connected.

Yesterday I was sure that all PC's were connected, and reset the modem to
factory settings. Configured it again with the new Login name, IP adress,
et. and everything seems to be working fine now.
I learned a lot from your website and Thank you for your time,

Mike.
