Slow Boot

FYI to Microsoft . . . after installing MS AntiSpyware, my XPPro computer
started booting very slow. It would sometimes get stuck at the welcome
screen, and sometimes get stuck at the desktop without icons or taskbar. It
would sometimes hang for 5 minutes before I rebooted. When I was able to
bring up task manager I saw that the CPU was pegging and the gcasServ.exe
file was the culprit. I uninstalled the Spyware and now it boots fine.

I'd bet that if you reinstall Microsoft Antispyware, and immediately go to
File, check for updates, and let it update, this symptom won't recur.

My thought was that you'd done a new install, and that the hang on startup
involved the check for latest definitions and auto-download that happens at
startup of the app.

Another thing that can be happening at startup is completion of a cleaning
operation.

That kind of hang shouldn't be a normal part of having the app installed.
It'd be interesting to know whether a reinstall showed the same symptom.
However, if it was a pain, you may want to wait for beta2, which should be
here in the next 68 days or so.
